Insulation

So after paying an inordinate amount of money to keep the van going, it was time to buy insulation, strip the back out, clean and re assemble.

We started off by sanding the scratched metal parts inside the rear doors with white hammerite, as it looked awful, and I realised they would remain on show once completed.

The next bit was to remove the already installed ply lining. As well as the recent new clutch and engine, the pre installed ply lining was a huge factor in deciding it was the van for us, as that was a relatively big job that I didn't then have to do! All we had to do was remove, insulate and replace over the top, easy!

Easier said than done, as it turns out... It had been sealed on the edges to stop rattling while driving. Awesome idea, but made removing them a nightmare. After considerable amounts of cutting with a stanley knife and scraping with a flat head screw driver, it was all off, as can be seen in the time lapse below:

Once all was removed, all I had to do was stuff the Dialls 100mm recycled plastic bottle loft insulation into the gaps of the panels, securing in place with duct tape.

The basic principle for insulation:
Van (cold metal)
Insulation - Dialls recycled plastic bottle 100mm loft insulation
Moisture barrier - Thermawrap foil insulation. This helps keep the Dialls stuff in place, and as its foil, acts as the moisture barrier for condensation, so it doesn't soak into the Dialls stuff. It also helps insulate, as its another form of insulation. You need to make sure that the edges of all pieces and to the panels of the van are sealed with foil tape too.
Wall - whatever you want to line the van with. We are leaving the ply lining, and covering that in the stretchy carpet, which will be another video :)

Getting ready to start work                               Mid process oil change
Fresh set of rubber all round
Loading up after a B&Q trip for insulation and wood.
Mid process stripping the back out before insulating.
 Floor insulation going down.
 Floor insulation completed!
Sealing the Dialls loft insulation in with Thermawrap and foil tape.

Next will be the bulkhead, insulation the rest of the doors, insulating the roof, and applying tongue and groove wood planks to the roof.
